Okay guys, we need to get as many people from the old journals over here as possible. Try to PM people you know on CoE and tell them about this site. I PMed a whole bunch of people yesterday (every person who had an entry in the newest 200 entries) but since it was so many people at once, the server saw it as spamming and deleted every single one.

I really don't want to join this board as I don't have enough time at the moment (icky exams ) to be active and therefore there's not any really any point. However, I wanted to make a couple of comments on this thread. I found here from a comment in the announcements forum on CoE btw.

Anyway, I've been journalling on and off (more off than on and the moment because of aformentioned exams) at CoE for the past two years and also at LJ for over a year. Someone mentioned that the biggest problem at LJ was the slash. I must confess first off that I don't have a problem with slash, but if you're on lj, much as anywhere, you can only really find slash if you go looking for it, and most of the time there are lots of warning to stop people that object to it from reading it. Yes, it's there, but unless you're looking for it, you probably won't find it. Some things such as Fanfic might be a bit dodgy to search for, but if you're doing this for the journals rather than anything else, why would you be searching anyway? LJ will also work a lot better than here, in a couple of months you're going to have pages and pages of posts if people join. Not very easy to search through, but lj is, especailly if you just want to read the posts by one person. There are friends pages which work like the favourites list on CoE as well, and you can even make a list of memorable posts. As for old entries at coe, you can copy and paste them into a new entry on lj and you can even backdate them.
Also, the rules are a lot slacker over there, and while I'm sure you'd want your community to have strict rules, what you post in your journals doesn't have to follow the same ones at CoE- ie you could discuss politics etc.
Also, quite a few members already have journals there, so for them it would just be a case of joining a community. Where as here, you're going to get people like me who would forget to check the board and not contribute. I already check lj regularly, so checking another community wouldn't be a problem.
If you need any help setting up a community, I'd be happy to give you a hand, and I'm sure most of the CoE staff who have journals wouldn't mind helping either. I'll be very busy until at least tuesday, but after that I only have one exam so I'd be able to tell you how to do it.

As for letting people know about here, or the community if you decide to go with that, there's a thread in the prancing pony about the journals where you could post, or once you have the community set up and a few members, you could try pming Rivka, or one of the journal mods and ask if it would be possible for them to either edit Rivka's last entry with the link, or add one new entry. I'd wait a few days before pming Rivka if I were you though, because I imagine she's been getting a lot of pms about it and she might not be in the best mood about it. She does have a life outside of CoE, and this is something she does for fun, it's a bit of a shame if people give her grief over it. I think a lot of people forget that she's not paid for it and she's a person too, even if you don't agree with her desicion, you have to remember it's her site and if it's making her life tough, she shouldn't have to do it. It is a LotR site after all, not a journals one.
